Are You The Right Customer?
One of the biggest issues I deal with on a daily basis is the request for a parts and labor breakdown. May I pose a question to the hundreds of potential customers who are reading this? When was the last time you walked into a restaurant, major dept? store, furniture store etc and asked the salesperson to see a parts and labor breakdown? I’ll take an educated guess……..Probably Never!
As a consumer, I certainly understand wanting to get the best service for the lowest price. As a Brooklyn and Staten Island plumber, I would like to recover my costs plus add in a healthy profit for the risk I take in delivering those services. After 30 plus years in this industry, I’ve discovered a mission that I can’t fulfill. Provide the best service possible for the lowest price, it can’t be done.
Contractors who deliver the best quality can and should command higher prices than those who don’t. Most consumers are good people, but a fair amount is still in denial of the fact that compensation for top quality workmanship should be commensurate with the quality. Unfortunately, most contractors have no any idea of what it cost to do business and consequently set their selling prices by secretly calling their competitors getting quotes for specific tasks over the telephone NOT VERY SMART!
Then there are companies like mine who sought out the successful experts of my chosen field to learn how to properly price my services that ar both fair to me as a plumbing contractor and you as a consumer. Of all the good intentioned consumers who want to get the job done right, there is still 1% to 2% who I will never be able to satisfy. This is the way I see it, you’re either a value buyer or a price buyer.
Value buyers purchase based on value received, the price is secondary to the quality of the service performed. Price buyers base their decision on price only. These buyers more often than not end up getting hurt in the end when the job goes horribly wrong and they can’t get the contractor to return to address the issue. Which one are you? If you’re price buyer I probably can’t help you, on the other hand, if you’re a value buyer, Let’s Talk!

Service Call Charges!
When I arrive at your door, many costs have already been incurred just to get me with my vehicle there, ready and able to perform any service you request. In reality, I BRING MY STORE TO YOU!
I incur the costs, including but not limited to: fuel, tolls (if applicable), vehicle maintenance, wear, and tear, plus all costs for myself or a service technician whether or not you purchase my services. These are “the costs of doing business” also known as overhead which all consumers pay when hiring a service company. Some companies call it a diagnostic fee, trip charge, service call charge etc.
Regardless of what it’s called, all legitimate service companies must charge a fee to cover the costs of traveling to your home. Some may choose to *waive that fee if you employ their services others will add it to the cost of their quote.
Neither method is right or wrong. The bad news is yes, Robert Sessa Plumbing does require a service call charge to come out to your home and make the diagnosis. The good news is I’ll *waive that fee if you decide to employ my services.
The Price Question!
Which price is the right or wrong price? Every contractor in your area has to base his or her pricing methods on their own cost to do business, plus add in a healthy profit margin for the risk they take. Some may charge $39 to $150.00, to clear a kitchen drain, while others charge $300.00 or more.
Most people would consider $39.00 to $150.00 a great deal, while others may feel $300.00 is a fair price. I go to a dentist who charges three times more than others in the area. I think he’s the best dentist in the world. He thinks he’s the best dentist and his prices reflect it. I have a client who pays two-thirds less than I pay for dental services and she thinks her dentist is the best in the world. Who’s right? That, I’ll leave for you to decide.
Frankly, I’ve been called some pretty terrible things by the price shoppers, some of which I wouldn’t think of publishing on my website. I sleep very well at night knowing I provide the best service possible to the loyal clientele who have stayed with me through my 30+ year career.
The point is Robert Sessa Plumbing may not be the least expensive choice in plumbing services, but I promise that if you decide to put your trust in me, you won’t be disappointed! “I guarantee to exceed your expectations or you won’t pay until I do”

Is My Quote Higher?
There’s a reason. Their cheap price may be putting you at great risk. Most legitimate contractors have similar costs and usually, similar prices. If you’ve been quoted a price that’s significantly lower than ours, it could be because that company is not playing be the rules.
Just like our state requires drivers to carry collision insurance on their car, contractors in New York City are required to have 2 types of insurance: 1) Worker’s Compensation and, 2) General Liability. Those policies are in place to protect you, the homeowner.
Workers who are injured on your property can sue you when they aren’t covered by a contractor’s Worker’s Compensation Policy. General Liability insurance protects your home and property if it’s damaged or destroyed (e.g., by fire) by the contractor’s employees.
I have a policy that covers up to $1,000,000 worth of damage per incident. Before you choose the cheapest contractor, make sure that company carries the required policies. Call their insurance company or agent and confirm it before you authorize any work. It’s for your protection!
